Creative Robotics with Arduino

Experiment with electronics and coding - Build robots and gadgets

Did you know, that building robots is simple and fun filled? It can be built, even from actual junk such as water-bottles, CDs, cardboard or literally, anything around you.  This program will enable children between 8 to 15 years old, to build robots by using Arduino, electronic sensors and Code - and learn concepts of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics), in a fun and engaging way. Design, prototype and play with electronics; Connect and build your own robots; Discover the inventor in you!

* Students will have to get their own laptops (Mac/Windows) for the workshop.

Build your own "starter" Robot (ages 8-15, beginner I)

Get introduced to arduino boards, sensors, motors, wheels, connecting wires, driver IC and many more electronic components. Get to know about the kit and prepare yourself to step into the world of invention. No prior coding or electronic knowledge and experience required. Students can purchase Robot Arduino kit to take home for AED 300.

Students will build a remote controlled robot with wheels/motors, distance sensor and line follower detection.

Connect Electronics

Once the body of the robot is built, it is time to connect the electronic components. Arduino will act like the brain of the robot. You will connect the brain to other components like motors and sensors, bringing the robot to life!

Coding

Visual coding will be used to program Arduino and sensors. You will get to know the basics of building algorithms and logicto control your robot to perform different tasks.

Topics Covered

Introduction to robots, electronics, sensors.

Controlling Light Emitting Diodes (LED), making musical keyboard with buzzer,  controlling DC motors, using laptop as a remote control device, using infrared and ultrasound sensors. Students can purchase  Arduino board and electronic component to take home for additional cost.

Activities: Robot assembly, coding, debugging and testing, experimentation, competition

Class projects: build simple remote controlled robot. Incorporate line following, obstacle avoidance, distance sensing control logic

Build your own Mechanical Robot (ages 8-15), beginner II

Get a more in-depth hands-on introduction to arduino boards, sensors, Servo motors, DC motors, driver IC, bluetooth modules and many more electronic components.  Some prior experience in coding and/or basic electronics is required. Students can purchase Robot Arduino kit to take home for AED 300.

Students will build projects that require to draw on their knowledge of engineering, science and mathematics concepts. Projects includes:

 

  • Drawing robot

  • Moving arm built based on lever mechanism

  • Security alarm

Coding

Visual coding will be used to program Arduino and sensors. Students will learn advanced logic and algorithm development to perform different tasks.

Smart Shopping Cart

A robotic shopping cart prototype which solves the problem of pushing heavy carts. You can easily control the carts using the joystick provided. To reduce the carbon footprint it is powered using solar cells.

Water Saving Robot

A smart prototype which senses the water leakage and collects this water and send it back to the water storage place.

Wall-E

Prototype of WallE using old cardboards and styrofoam cups which can be controlled using your mobile phone. While building the project you learn the basics of electronics, design and signalling.

Smart City

A prototype which helps us improve the power generated by solar cells and also methods of conserving it. In power generation section, the solar panels change their angle according to the position of sun to receive maximum radiation.

Surface Cleaner Robot

A cleaning and mopping robot that reduces the effort of cleaning places that are hard to access. Built using old water bottles and brushes.
